Senate Policies

Committees

 About USG Committees:

The seven USG committees aid the USG Senate in serving the Princeton undergraduate student body. Composed of an elected or appointed chair and a group of selected undergraduate students, each committee focuses on a specific area of interest, ranging from academics to sustainability. These committees develop their own policy proposals and programmatic initiatives, which are then presented to and implemented by the Senate at-large. In this way, the committee system helps ensure that USG is able to give equal and specific attention to a variety of different areas of interest and concern.

If you have comments or concerns that could best be routed through one of USG's committees, please reach out to usg@princeton.edu.

Academics Committee

About

The Academics Committee hopes to continue working on involving student concerns in productive discussions and our current projects. We hope to prioritize our current work on the minors programs, mental health initiatives, first-year experience improvement, grading policy discussion, and work on restructuring the current form of the finals' period. The Academics Committee is committed to serving as a liaison between the undergraduate student body and the administration on topics regarding undergraduate academics. Members also have the opportunity to serve on the faculty-student-administrative Committee on the Course of Study and Committee on Undergraduate Admission and Financial Aid.

University Social Life Committee

About

The Undergraduate Student Life Committee aims to support and improve the experience of Princeton undergraduates holistically: from campus climate to policy and procedure. Within classroom contexts and beyond, we discuss, explore, and implement creative solutions to the problems facing our student body while seeking always to make Princeton a place where each and every one of us has the resources, programming, and support needed to thrive. The Student Life space welcomes undergrads passionate about contributing to their community and eager to better understand the campus environment where they live, learn, and lead. Encompassing everything from extracurricular participation, fitness, health, recreation, civic and community engagement to career preparation, belonging, residential life, and leadership, the Student Life Committee is eager to hear your thoughts, ideas, and initiatives.

Social Committee

About

USG’s Social Committee takes pride in orchestrating some of Princeton University's most prominent social gatherings, notably Lawnparties and Dean’s Date celebrations. Our mission is to create events that are not only vibrant and engaging but also embody the principles of sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity. This endeavor is a collaborative effort, involving partnerships with various campus offices to ensure that our events are memorable and foster a sense of unity among all Princeton community members. Additionally, we are committed to continuously enhancing our expertise in event planning and management, embracing diverse and innovative approaches.

Campus and Community Affairs Committee

About

The CCA Committee encourages students to leave the Orange Bubble, experience new places with one another, and invest in the local community. We will continue to plan trips to art events, and surrounding bustling cities and quirky towns, as well as offer free food from local businesses through Tigers In Town! We will also highlight student talent by partnering with the Arts Council of Princeton for art workshops and events. We aim to enhance student agency by offering replicable opportunities for deepening friendships, trying new things, and having fun!

Priorities:

  1. Creating layers of connection between Princeton and the local community
  2. Fostering a stubborn sense of commitment within the student body to the broader Princeton community

Diversity and Equity Committee

About

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is the USG’s primary body for student issues related to identity on the Princeton campus. Its efforts focus on ensuring all undergraduates have equitable access to Princeton’s resources and that the Princeton community is a space rooted in belonging. The Committee liaises with administrators, student groups, and affinity spaces to develop policies that expand access and inclusion.

  • For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Abby Lu (USG DEI Committee Chair) at al8944@princeton.edu.

Mental Health Committee

About

USG’s Mental Health Committee works on creating lasting policies, projects, and communities supporting students’ mental health. Given the various factors that impact and nurture mental health, we’re committed to an intersectional and dynamic approach. Accordingly, we work on academic policies providing support, streamlining mental health resources, organizing monthly Mental Health Luncheons, working with counseling services, and establishing university committees, programs, and communities for support. We’re open to anyone with a passion yet realistic interest in mental health advocacy!
